In April 2018, Plumbing World embarked on a major rebrand with their Tier A flagship stores in Auckland. They launched a search for local signwriters to submit quotes. Their ambitious new branding needed to be fully executed within a year – when Speedy Signs won the job the race against time began.
It was complex. It was technical. And Brenton from Speedy Signs Henderson got straight to it. He didn’t know it yet, but he was on his way to setting the standard for quality so high, that his reputation as the go-to rebrand man would cement his professional relationship with Plumbing World for good. It all came down to trust.
Rolling Up Sleeves, Rolling Out Excellence
Since Brenton is a hands-on sort of guy, Plumbing World’s Marketing Manager, Sarah Vining had the luxury and peace of mind of having just one point of contact throughout the process. This freed her time up to focus on other aspects of marketing.
After the successful launch of the Plumbing World Henderson, the Albany and Manukau stores got in touch with Brenton and signed him up to do theirs too. His ability to share in a client’s vision and then consistently execute high-quality work meant he was proving time and again that he could be counted on.
When Good Work Leads to More
Next up was the big one – Plumbing World’s Mount Wellington flagship store. During his time on site, he got talking with a few of the other stakeholders also assigned to the project, which included the painting crew. They discussed joining forces and collaborating on stores that needed painting. They shared their ideas with Sarah who, after the challenge of the first 10 stores, was more than happy to put them in charge of the next set of roll-outs (Rotorua, Napier, Hastings and Tauranga).
This would be a major project management exercise with many sites raising their own unique blend of challenges. Yet again, Brenton did what he does best and got to work. With 37 stores in total, work is ongoing – with new stores opening in Queenstown and Kumeu plus the launch of their national distribution centre (a massive project in itself), Plumbing World and Speedy Signs look destined for a bright future growing alongside each other.
Trust Will Always Enable Growth
Over the course of the work, Brenton and his team engaged with many other Speedy Signs franchises around New Zealand, even taking on the few sites where no local Speedy Signs branch existed. In these cases, he would work closely with their design agency on the creative brief, manufacture, printing, packaging, shipping of components and signage placement instructions.
The two forces were growing in different ways. Plumbing World was evolving and growing as a company while Brenton was evolving his skills and growing his reputation. One thing they both shared was mutual trust and respect. Since Brenton delivered product on time, every single time, quality was never in question, and Sarah was delighted with the service and end product.
Brenton is now known as the go-to for all signage for Plumbing World because of his consistency and execution – once formed, some ties just can’t be broken. This is the story of how skill leads to trust, and trust leads to continued growth and success. Without proven excellence, there can be no trust. And without trust, there can be no opportunities for growth.
